Stay Home Club x BABES FEST: A Virtual Convening of Minds

At bbatxour programs are effectively postponed through May 1 due to COVID-19 orders. And we are taking the hit—we want to flatten the curve. We’re thinking you’re probably right there with us. And if you’re anything like our team, staying put and staying quiet isn’t quite what we do best. Especially in times of uncertainty.

So, to keep us indoors and connected, we’re launching STAY HOME CLUB. STAY HOME CLUB is a once-weekly virtual gathering on Saturdays in April, featuring creatives, entrepreneurs and leaders from our programs. We’re going to share resources, explore rest and new routines, talk about layoffs and career pivots and show up for our creative and small business community.

This Saturday, April 4, 2020, STAY HOME CLUB launches with a version of BABES FEST. Come e-hang with us as we recommend film screenings from previous BABES FEST lineups, discuss creative community-building and jam out to a curated selection of DJs from around the country and our residency.

THIS SATURDAY’S SCHEDULE:

ALL DAY: Watch five short films from former BABES FEST lineups—all created by Texas women filmmakers.

4:30 PM: Doors are officially open! Feel free to log on, say hi, and get comfortable before our panel begins.

5:00 PM to 6:30 PM: We’ll be hosting a Zoom panel on Why Building Creative Community is Important, where we’ll have both local and national creative leaders and community organizers discuss the importance and logistics behind artistic space-making and its sustainability (with a focus on queer and other historically disempowered communities). This panel will be featuring Chicago-based artist and DJ Ariel Zetina, WOMEN SOUND OFF founders Evangeline Elder and Carmena Woodward, and will be facilitated by Austin-based writer, performance artist and comedian Andie Flores.

6:30 PM to 9:00 PM: Let’s dance. :) Tune into BABES FEST Radio as we livestream three one-hour sets from our curated selection of DJs from around the country, including Ariel Zetina and DJ La Moon. Get in your favorite dancing clothes, turn your party lights on, and join the virtual dance floor.
